My jewellery is an artistic expression within the realm of fashion. As an art form my jewellery
has a purpose in that offers the wearer an object that enhances the shaping personal identity.
My experience as an art curator revealed to me the value of contemporary jewellery art forms.
My contemporary jewellery aesthetic engages sculptural and painterly approaches towards
creating art and in doing so the integrity of the form and its surface play a vital role in shaping
my jewellery designs.
Oriental Calligraphy, which I have practiced since a young girl, has always fascinated me in
how the brush stroke touches and enlivens the surface of a paper or fabric. Black ink lines and
patterns often reveal meaningful symbols, letters or poetic landscapes. Calligraphy is now vital
for the creation of my new art work.
I also enjoy working with natural materials, fabric, fibber paper, wood, glass and stone in
combination with precious metals. The essence of each material has its own character and
offers many unique and
different shapes, colours, patterns and textures. Early in my artistic life I focused on matching
fabrics and fibbers with metal. I now understand why I was interested in these materials which attract and
affect my current creativity. Materials have their own voice and they speak to me in a way that
I must listen and follow. I continuously endeavor to listen to their voice and bring them into my jewellery.
