The red line running throughout my work is the fascination for the human body and its potential to express aspects of the human condition. I am interested in how the fragmented body can express human suffering -suffering caused by struggles we are confronted with through our mortal nature and mankind’s position towards nature, society and culture. Since the burden of human suffering often reflects itself in physical form, the human body forms an important starting point. To express vulnerable bodily features, I experiment with organic materials, which deform, decay, dry, wrinkle and shrivel; reminding us of our own flesh and skin.

These stages remain visible as traces of a process -a life once lived. The combination of these fragile pieces with sewn seams, metal hooks and piercing pins, underlines their fragility. During the process I investigate how the fragmentary state cries out for completion. To me, this is a crucial aspect of jewelry: pieces crave for another body to become more complete. Furthermore the pieces –as wearable body fragments- communicate with the living body of the wearer: they confront us with our mortality, but are simultaneously cherished by the body they are reunited with.

Best Before

My current work, “Best Before” a science fiction narrative, is drawing a dystopic picture of the future and refers to consumption and depletion of resources. It deals with questions what jewellery will look like in the future and what kind of materials and value perception we might have after this. Due to crude oil depletion, the material turns into a valuable jewellery matter like gold. The last drops of oil are extracted in order to experience a final consumption.
Communicating the relationship between past, present and future, the jewellery pieces are developed with shapes referring to disposable goods, reflecting our consumer culture today, and melt with traditional jewellery elements from the past. Furthermore, I combined gold with oil because both have common characteristics.

Acting as symbols for power and wealth, gold has been consequently treasured for its everlasting properties whereas oil has been valued for its endless consuming abilities. Mining gold and extracting crude oil both cause severe environmental problems and sometimes even human violence such as war.
Telling a story about depletion, the work is executed in the same way. As soon as a jewellery piece is worn, oil parts are slowly changing, melting and eventually collapsing through body temperature and movement. Golden holding structures remain, nevertheless they still communicate loss.
The work is meant to be thought-provoking; it can be seen as an invitation towards initiating a discussion about new solutions for the future.

Domestic Bliss

Harnesses of horses are the starting point of my series of works Domestic Bliss. The harness is the connection between the human and the animal, it is a communication tool that enables us to handle a horse. I made harnesses for everyday objects. The headgears are custom made for each object and they are constructed according to the funktion of harnesses used for horses. The final work is consisting of the empty harness that is telling through its shape- and in the silver etched details -of the object it was made for. My headgears are a communication tool between the object and the wearer. Our everyday object serve us, and I would go that faar and say we are depending on them. With the necklaces of my series Domestic Bliss I request our relation to everyday objects in a playfull way.

Animalia

My work started of as a material based research, I had no story and I had no goal…
I just needed to keep my hands busy and get them to like the materials I had in front of me. And as my work progressed I started to see different qualities in the materials and a story started to take place in my mind. Horn and the antler of the horn was the one part I took from my previous body of work, in that collection it was the supporting act but now it had taken the main focus. All the pieces contain horn from deer, elk or reindeer these strong animals that is a proud bearer of a natural crown. I started to react to my surrounding more and more, and I realised that the deer was living in the forest next to my house, surrounded by a city, enclosed in a green prison. I thought this was just about them…but I realised more and more that this is also about me and my living situation. Being originally from the countryside in the northern part of Sweden I can also sometimes feel trapped in Stockholm…I want to live two different life at the same time, I love my life in Stockholm but I also love to be at my sisters farm in my working clothes, working close to the animals and breathing the fresh air of the open landscape. The peanut is the representation of some homes in Stockholm, small and dark, sometimes with two nuts and sometimes with one almost never empty. Is it a quality to be home in two places or is it just a feeling of wanting to be somewhere else all the time, or to be home in the place you where last??

New outfit, new colour..

Walk to the end of the road and

Get back to the old you again,
get out of the city costume…
