Brooches, Earring series

This jewelry series is based on ideas surrounding the theme of „sanctuary“ or „place of refuge.“

For thousands of years, the house has been the most elementary place of refuge for human beings
offering protection, privacy, and shelteredness. In the house, human beings can find seclusion and
separation from a stressful or burdensome outside world, on a physical as well as on a mental level.

(„Every seclusion of the mind has external allegories of refuge. The most common
of all places of refuge is the angle.“)

The most basic part of a house is an angle – for me this angle symbolizes seclusion,
protection and shelteredness. The angle serves as a metaphor for seclusion and is the
primary constitutive criterium for this jewelry series. The shadow intensifies the imagery of
seclusion as it creates different light effects within the different pieces of jewelry.

Necklaces:

This element of a necklace is part of a design project on „transcience“ which was inspired by
a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. I worked with allusions to paper and Japanese
origami.

All the pieces are made from white-laquered silver in order to bring out the light/dark effects
created by the shadows.
